He suggested that such traits might evolve if they are <strong>sexually selected<\/strong>, that is if they increase the individual&rsquo;s reproductive success, even at the expense of their survival (Darwin 1871).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div style=\"height:100px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><\/div>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.nature.com\/scitable\/content\/ne0000\/ne0000\/ne0000\/ne0000\/13311828\/brennan_banner_ksm.jpg\" alt=\"Sexual Selection\"\/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<div style=\"height:100px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p><br><br>Darwin noted that <strong>sexual selection<\/strong> depends on the struggle between males to access females.
